WBFS Manager's Downloaded Covers Not Showing

Jan 9, 2010 at 4:44 PM

Hi all,

I have been looking for a solution to this, but haven't found anything.

I have gone to the covers directory and noticed that all the PNG's for the covers are 0 bytes.  I am running 3.0 32bit version.  I have tried deleting them all and having WBFS re-download them, but with no success.  Can anyone assist?  Thanks.

I just answered the same question here:

I think there are two issues here.  One, which Marcw addressed nicely where USB loader GX downloads the cover art which is seen on the wii and the other is where WBFS manager downloads the coverart and stores in on your computer.  I was running my WBFS manager and the images were being saved to C:/MyDocuments/ WBFS Manager Covers.  I recently had a virus and wiped my laptop clean and now after reinstalling the WBFS manager the files still download but are not viewable?  The old PNG files that I have backed up on my external drive are in the range of 75KB which I can view as a thumbnail or with my picture fax viewer and the new ones that are downloaded are coming up as 0 bytes?  Am I missing a setting or something?  Doesn't matter if I go back and use 2.2 or 3.0.  I am running Windows XP.  I think the second issue is what Terminusxx was talking about.

Thanks

Hi guys,

With regards to your solution, marcw, you are refering to the USB Loaders and the covers you can obtain while on the Wii- that isn't an issue at all- that's great.  My problem, as bugnutz talks about is WBFS Manager and its ability to download game covers off the internet as you add them to your WBFS partition on you hard drive.

I have continued to look for solutions and came across someone speaking of it being a permissions issue with network filtering and not allowing your network to listen for WBFS requests, but I can't see that being an problem as I allowed my system to go DMZ- still nothing.

Hope someone can come up with a solution.  It's not dier or anything, just would be nice to use the application to its full potential. - Awesome App btw.

Thanks all.

Hi guys,

I have the same problem as terminusxx and bugnutz running WBSF Manager 3.0 on Windows 7.  All of the covers in C:/MyDocuments/ WBFS Manager Covers are showing up as 0 bytes.

I also heard of the permission issue with network filtering but am unsure if that would solve the problem.  The question is, where does WBFS Manager actually download the covers from? Is the site that hosts the covers actually down?  Does someone know the answer?

Thanks all.

Hey guys,

Don't know if this has something to do with the cover issue or not, but I did some snooping and went into the 'WBFSManager.exe.config' file found in the app directory and found the config strings dealing with the covers.  It appears that the application trys to go to the site, 'hxxp://www.theotherzone.com/wii/ntsc/download.php?file=' I tried to manually go to this site but nothing.  Attempted to even ping and no go.  So, I don't know if this is the issue and everyone is experiencing this, or it's localized- not sure.  Can any of you verify?

Thanks all.

Col...you are the man!  It works for me by just going in and changing that one line!  Actually, it is even better since I am getting the 3D cover art now instead of the regular.  I know, it isn't a big deal but it looks sweet when they pop up!

Thanks again Term and Col!

Hey guys!

Right on, Col!  Thanks for your efforts!  Works great now.  That's why I love forums; get alot of heads brainstorming the same problem and you're bound to come up with a solution!

Thanks again!

Hi FunnyT

WiiTDB Site doe's not display RF (Region Free) covers so the only way is to do a search by name at http://wiitdb.com/Game/Search and enter the game name without a cover and right mouse click on the cover you want (Front.3D,or disc) and save picture to the WBFS Manager Covers folder in the my document folder then you will have to rename the file to the id which is underneath the game title .PNG  in WBFS Manager  eg (SISCOH.PNG for Singstar Chartbreaker) which for me is a RF Game.

Hope this helps.

Ps

the SISCOH id is unique to that game and region .

Greets all.... Great Post Colinallan I am a noob and having great difficulty getting the "WBFSmanager.exe.config" updated & working per Colinallan post above.  Could someone just post or email me an updated one that is working for the us 3D covers and the Europe 3D box covers so I can just cut and paste it in my WBFS program.  This file seems so simple to update but I am obviously doing something very very wrong and getting frustrated to the point of breaking my fingers off....... Wahh!!    Thanks for all your help...... I miss the wonderful box covers on my PC   MrRochie

Hi all, saw this thread is still going and thought I might perhaps shed some light on the subject. First for game covers in the software do as posted above by Colinallan and edit your config xml file.

The next thing I did was partition my 500GB HDD... 1x4GB FAT32 partition for themes & covers, the remaining space is formatted to WBFS (create a raw partition with windows disk management, do not format, assign a drive letter, then format the new partition with wbfs manager). Setup your images folder like this:

  • Root>Images
  • Root>Images>2D
  • Root>Images>3D

Third, in WBFS manager, told it to download only 3D covers to the 4GB partition to "Root>Images" as that is where 3D Covers go via USB Loader GX (my loader of choice, I assume all loaders have an option where to save images to.). You can choose the style of covers you like via the first step, but tell WBFS to use the custom directory accordingly.

Lastly, in USB Loader GX, I edit the custom paths section to reflect downloading covers to the USB 4GB FAT32 partition for my covers.

  • 3D = "USB:/images"
  • 2D = "USB:/images/2D"
  • Disc = "USB:/images/Disc"

Since all the covers are coming from wiitdb anyway you won't have to worry about overwriting, or worse quality. Now whichever I use, WBFS Manager or USB Loader GX, both are always pulling the same covers from the same site to the same folders all the time.

Hope this helps as it has made my covers issue a lot easier and prevents duplicating downloaded files in multiple locations.

Hello everyone and specially the Developer!

I am a Wii Backup manager user  for ever. The only thing that WBM lacks is the covers download. I found this in your software but it DOES NOT WORK! I've done some research in your forum for the solution but the solution presented here is not eficient.

Changing the from http://www.theotherzone.com to http://wiitdb.com does NOT resolve the issue completly because the Region Free (RF) covers are NOT downloaded due that http://wiitdb.com uses a diferent URL to download RF covers (http://wiitdb.com/wiitdb/artwork/cover/EN/xxxxxx.png).

Noticing that WBFSManager.exe.config does NOT have a line like...

</setting>
            <setting name="CoverLinkRF" serializeAs="String">
                <value>http://wiitdb.com/wiitdb/artwork/cover/EN/</value>
</setting>

and you software code does not recognize it even if you try to add it to WBFSManager.exe.config thus not recognizing the RF covers.

With all this in mind and knowing that CFG USB Loader usues the http://wiitdb.com database (because is the best! maybe!) why also not switch to use the http://wiitdb.com database in your own software and eliminate the cover issua once and for all by changing your code to regognize the above line in the WBFSManager.exe.config file?

Just make you code read the label "CoverLinkRF" and the code below in WBFSManager.exe.config would work fine for ALL kinds of covers!

            <setting name="CoverLinkNTSC" serializeAs="String">
                <value>http://wiitdb.com/wiitdb/artwork/cover/US/</value>
            </setting>
            <setting name="CoverLinkRF" serializeAs="String">
                <value>http://wiitdb.com/wiitdb/artwork/cover/EN/</value>
            </setting>
            <setting name="CoverLinkNTSCJ" serializeAs="String">
                <value>http://wiitdb.com/wiitdb/artwork/cover/JA/</value>
            </setting>
            <setting name="CoverLinkPAL" serializeAs="String">
                <value>http://wiitdb.com/wiitdb/artwork/cover/EN/</value>
            </setting>
            <setting name="CoverLinkKOR" serializeAs="String">
                <value>http://wiitdb.com/wiitdb/artwork/cover/JA/</value>
            </setting>

Note: When using the code above I can get WBFS Manager to download ALL covers but the RF ones! The RF covers get their names but with zero bytes!

By fixing this I and I guess everyone else would be glad to use your great software and be able to get all covers without problems!

I hope this was of any help and we can see your software working 100%

Cheers,

André
