Samsung S2 Portable 500Gb

Dec 14, 2009 at 7:45 AM

Hi! I'm new. And I got problem.
I've bought Samsung S2 Portable 500GB USB HDD for my Wii yesterday.
I can't format it to WBFS with WBFS Manager 3.0. I've got error something like this: <!--quoteo-->

Cannot load selected drive. Make sure it's not in use and it's formated to WBFS.

Wii USB Devices Compatibility List says that 500GB Samsung works with everything.

What I doing wrong?

For me it solution was simple, having portable S2 drive as well, although 'only' 250 GB in size. For me it helped to get rid of all partitions in the first place including that secure crap that comes pre-installed. (control panel -> disk manager) then just re-create one or more primary partition, mark it active, assign a drive letter and recycle (detach usb cable and re-plugin). Windows will ask if you want to format the drive and there you will just tell no and instead format the drive in any wbfs managing program and off you go :)

What ruodokas is saying is did you reformat the drive to Fat32 before anything else? Fat32 not NTFS. and then partition it. Another thing, if you haven't already, upgrade to WBFS manager 3.01.

I can only format it to exFAT, i don't have the option to do it as FAT32

If you want to format it to FAT go to the samsung support page, but I tell that doing that won't help with the formating to WBFS, I did what roudokas suggest but that didn't work. So can somebody help us?

You are NOT supposed to format the drive under windows. I will once again write step-by-step here, that got me thru using my 250 gb s2 portable :) (with 0.01 gb free space at the moment, 102 games installed)

1. Plug in the drive, and wait a while for windows to detect and install drivers if necessary.

2. Go to disk management via control panel -> administrative tools

3. Delete every partition on S2 drive (obviously)

4. Create single PRIMARY partition, and mark it active. Assign a drive letter to it, but DO NOT format it to any filesystem. (if done correctly by now, when ever you click for the new drive letter in windows explorer, windows will ask to format it. press always cancel on that.)

5. Close disk management, and open up WBFSManager. Now you can select the new drive letter and actually format that to WBFS after which you can start the long work to fill up the drive with games.

No,I already tried that way but also didn't work. I guess it's all about luck, anyway thanks for trying to help, i'm gonna keep trying and if i found a solution i'll tell it here.

I followed all of ruodokas and it didn't work for me either, BUT i was using WBFS 2.5 (had always worked on every other drive) downloaded 3.0 (latest version) and it worked :D

Hope this helps A Urrutia.

BTW... Thanks ruodokas !!

Hi All,

I was following this thread very carefully as I have the same problem as A_Urratia.

I have a Samsung USB S2 HDD of 320 GB and tried to format it to WBFS with Windows 7 and Vista in combination with WBFS Manager 2.5 and the latest version 3.0.01.

Next to that I did EVERYTHING Ruodokas said......step by step. Other Formums advised to format the USB HDD as FAT32 first. So I did using the Samsung Format Tool.

So first I formatted it to FAT32 (was NTFS) and made a active Primary Partition with drive letter W.

Please note that I didn't format it to FAT32 before I tried Ruodakas steps first.....

Recycled it and started WBFS Manager (both versions) but still WBFS Manager gives errors.

First error when I try to format it : Couldn't read disk please make sure the drive isn't in use en is formatted to WBFS (My own Dutch translation to English).

Then OK and next try.....second error Couldn't format disk.....

I am out of options so IF someone could place a miracle this Christmas.............I am waiting at the Christmas tree........ Thanks Santa!!!!

Sounds like the Grinch has stolen Xmas for you.  I have had exactly the same problem with an S2 500GB Samsung.  Tried every possible avenue (from the FAT32 format tool on the Samsung website, to H2Format etc - nothing works).

I'm in the process of moving all of my files form a WD 500GB Elements to the Samsung to use the WD drive.  Shame ... I was hoping not to have to use a power source.

Hi reesaroo74,
Thanks for your physical support! I the meantime I brought my Samsung back to the shop and got my money back.
No I am the proud owner of a WD My Passport Essential 320GB HD and I didn't even had to format the HDD. Just plugged it in started WBFS Manager, created a WBFS format and off we went.
So the samsung HDD are useless in this case.
Just hope that people (as myself do some pre checkup before buying a HDD).
Ow and have a great new year and may all your hopes and dreames come true.

Listen all and listen well. Bossbaas was sent from the heavens to bestow his divine grace upon us all! Finally, after many hours of slaving away, I fixed my problem thanks to him. I am so pleased, I decided to make an account and thank him personally.

To those who are still in the dark, let me clarify the solution.

Q: Dear Internet... I cannot format my drive to WBFS, I have partioned, re-partinioned, formated (FAT, NTFS), used WBFS manager, Wii Backup Manager... and nothing works. What should I do?

A: Screw open your external, you probably have a samsung drive right? Regardless, due to technical...mmm...technicalities, it cannot be formatted by the WBFS manager or Wii Backup Manager. It can however be formatted by ncWBFSTool which can be found at the link mentioned above. Remember however, that CFG USB launcher will have problems (or at least I couldn't get it to work) running the games. Rather download and use USB Launcher GX.

If you have still have problems, PM or reply to this message. Thanks again to Bossbaas, our savior.

I am still having problems even with ncWBFSTool. When I format my external hard drive to WBFS with ncWBFSTool a pop up says "WBFS partition initialized!" but when I go to select the drive it does not show up on the ncWBFSTool. I also tried using WBFS Manager 3.0 but then I get "Cannot load selected drive. Make sure it's not in use and it's formated to WBFS."

Any help would be much appreciated I am getting desperate! :)

I have windows 7 x64 and a 1TB Iomega externa hard drive

After a lot of reading, I came to know that there existed other drugs with sildenafil citrate formulations(active ingredient in Viagra) and the prominent and most popular amongst them was Kamagra. These drugs were manufactured outside US due to Pfizer’s patent laws in US(ya that’s how they overprice Viagra). After careful consideration I chose Kamagra as my ED medication. It is manufactured by Ajanta Pharma which is a leading pharmaceutical  in Asia and they market their products in 30 countries – they also have a facility in New Jersey. So there is no question mark on their credibility. kamagra review
